International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8, to honour the historical, cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. The day is also observed to bring attention to issues such as gender inequality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. This is also a day to appreciate the efforts of women who are fighting for other womens’ rights, equality, and happiness.

International Women’s Day, has its origins in the turbulent early 1900s, a time of rampant inequality and oppression. Gender inequality is still a part of today’s society and discrimination, stereotypes, and bias exist in the workplace, at home, in the media, and in education. Hence, International Women’s Day is an important time to celebrate the achievements women and highlight how far we still need to go.

Women have come a long way fighting for their rights within the political, cultural, and social spheres. From handling the operations at the workplace to doing household chores, they have always been a superhero.

I have given several interviews during my career phase. However, I was mostly told by the organizations, “Sorry we are accepting only male candidates at the moment”. Luckily CollPoll and a few of my previous organizations cherished the fact that I am a woman and a hard-working one. That is my moment – the thought of zero biasness and gender equality!

For me, real empowerment is – “Earning a living for myself, being able to live independently, and build the life I envisioned for myself as a young girl.”

The definition of empowerment for me is being self-dependent. Each phase of my life has empowered me in different ways. The guidance and relentless support from my family has helped me overcome every challenge of life. From marrying an Army officer to celebrating occasions without his physical presence, things have been happy and tough at the same time. However, this change made me stronger and empowered me in the walk of life.

Women today are breaking the stereotypes that consider them less hardworking, force them to be inclined towards household work, and asks them to bear every problem without a complaint. They are independent, fearless, and diligent.

International Women’s Day is an important day to educate everyone about removing the barriers of stopping women from growth and learning. We appreciate the efforts of women at CollPoll and look forward to encouraging gender equality and equal opportunities for everyone!
